My great-grandmother was committed to this facility from 1900 until 1909 when she died. She was committed due to excessive grief at the death of her husband. Her son, my grandfather, was not notified of her death until several years later and never knew where her burial site is. Does anyone know of any way I can obtain her records from this facility or if records from that long ago even still exist?

The signs that you saw was the old monson state, and there are cameras only at the entrance , ( i went up there 4 times and never got caught i never went up where the signs were)They way that i get into there was a back rd called Hovey rd, it takes a little longer but its the safest way. you gotta go half way up the rd till you see like a little lake/ pond it has mad lilly pads and you park along there and across the street from the pond theres an enterence of a dirt rd. it has no trespassing signs but go down there its a bout 20-30 min walk at the beginning you'll see a huge gate and you no your going the right way. and once you get to the bottom of the hill you can see the rd and the new monson state but be careful cuz the houses are right long the rd. i suggest that you cut threw the woods and youll be in the back yard of one of the houses, and theres like 5 or 6 houses in a row. its actually pretty cool theres still paved rds and side walks, I want to see the buildings but i cant seem to find them, theres are all houses that i found. it was weid cuz one of the houses have a huge hole in the floor and i want to kno whati t was used for. if you look at my myspace you can see all the pics that i took. but let me know if you find it.

Hi just read y message about monson state. Me and my friends went up there and found houses like 7 unused houses, we explored them. Then a few days later i herd of building and tunnels. And i went last night to try to find the buildings and couldnt find them. I was wondering where they are. Are they on the side they use now or on the abanded side? and if anyone knows where they are can you lead me in the right direction?????

Hello There
I am new on this site and I am very interested in what you are sharing.
My GrandFather was a patient at Warren Hospital and died there in the 60's. My Mom use to tell me stories about the hospital and its grounds. She told me that my GrandFather use to do a lot of work around the grounds and enjoyed it very much. She said he use to grow the vegetables and groom the grounds and took great prde in both. Even though most of the time he did not recogonize my Mom (he thought she was her older sister) she went to visit him regularly. Mom also told me his Physcians name was Dr. Israel and that he took good care of my GrandFather. Do either of you recognize that doctors name?? I am seeking to find where my GranPa is buried so I can place a headstone there and I can go to place flowers out for him. I never got to meet him, when my Mom married she had 5 children and we were poor and lived in Buffalo NY. She did not have the money or means to go to Warren when my Grandpa died, and she never received anything from the hospital. I would love to see pictures of him at the hospital as I only have one picture of him and I understand that somewhere in records are pictures of the patients at dances, some parties, in the fields and general shots. If you know of any of these things I would appreciate your guidance..I would like to find where he is buried and some of the records to find a little background on him. He has a very special place in my heart I think becasue he had such a special place in my Moms Heart. Many Thanks!!

I think the "abandoned" buildings you saw are still part of the active campus. Some are not currently used but are in the middle of ones that are. The abandoned part people talk about are across the road, I think people still walk or ride bikes through there.
